Taliban rocket attacks on Afghanistan’s Kandahar airport, flights suspended

Taliban fighters attacked Kandahar airport in southern Afghanistan with at least three rockets overnight, a spokesman for the insurgent group said on Sunday, aimed at thwarting airstrikes by Afghan government forces.

Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid told Reuters: “The Kandahar airport was targeted by us because the enemy was using it as a base to conduct air strikes against us.”

Afghan government officials said the rocket attacks forced the authorities to suspend all flights and partially damaged the runway. Officials said there were no immediate reports of casualties.
