Taliban firing to disperse anti-Pakistan rally in Kabul

New Delhi: The Taliban opened fire in the air on Tuesday to disperse dozens of people protesting in Kabul against Pakistan’s involvement in Afghan affairs, AFP journalists reported from the scene.

Around 70 people, mostly women, rallied outside the Pakistani embassy, which they said was being interfered with by Islamabad.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said this after confirming the upcoming meeting between Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Lt Gen Faiz Hameed and senior Taliban leader Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, according to an ANI report.

However, the Taliban later said that it would not allow Pakistan or any other country to interfere in Afghanistan’s internal affairs, news agency PTI reported. Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid told Afghan news agency Khama that the group would not allow any country to interfere in the country’s internal affairs.

ISI chief Hameed was the first high-ranking foreign official to visit Afghanistan from Pakistan after the Taliban takeover last month.

On Monday, the Taliban claimed control of the Panjshir Valley by killing two important Resistance Front commanders—Fahim Dashti, a spokesman for Ahmed Masood, who was leading a resistance movement for the Taliban, and General Abdul Wood Zara, a nephew. On Monday, after Ahmed Shah Masood, it was reported that Pakistani forces helped the Taliban takeover.

The commanders of Afghanistan’s National Resistance Force also claimed that Pakistani troops assisted the Taliban during fighting in the Panjshir Valley.

It is worth noting that the Taliban has invited Pakistan as a guest at the new government formation ceremony and Pakistan has also vocally supported the effort to provide global recognition to the Taliban.
