Taking cue from Centre, Goa government further slashes fuel prices

taking a cue from Central government’s move to reduce fuel prices On the eve of Diwali, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced a further reduction in the prices of petrol and diesel late Wednesday evening, bringing down the prices by Rs 12 and Rs 17 respectively.

“The Modi government has given a wonderful Diwali gift to all Indians by announcing reduction in excise duty on petrol and diesel. I thank Honorable PM @narendramodi ji as this decision will bring great relief to common man and will help in controlling inflation,” Sawant tweeted.

Apart from this, the Goa government will make an additional cut of Rs 7 on petrol and Rs 7 on diesel, which will reduce the price of diesel by Rs 17 per liter and petrol by Rs 12 per liter.

Earlier on Wednesday, the central government cut the prices of petrol and diesel by Rs 5 and Rs 10 respectively from Thursday, reducing the excise duty on the fuel.

The Finance Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday night, a day before Diwali, “The reduction in excise duty on diesel will be twice that of petrol. Indian farmers, through their hard work, have maintained the momentum of economic growth even during the lockdown phase.” and a drastic reduction in excise duty on diesel will give a boost to farmers during the coming Rabi season.”

“In recent months, there has been a global jump in crude oil prices. As a result, the domestic prices of petrol and diesel had increased under inflationary pressure in recent weeks. The world has also seen energy shortages and inflated prices of all kinds.”

According to the statement, the Center has made efforts to ensure that there is no shortage of energy in the country and that commodities like petrol and diesel are sufficiently available to meet the requirements.
