Vasco: Fish vendors Mormugao Municipal Corporation market time till now Tuesday To To decide On the date of their moving out of the present premises. The exemption was granted by the Mormugao City Council (mmc) Jayant Tari after a massive confrontation during a meeting on Thursday.
The authority is trying to persuade the vendors to shift to a temporary premises as they plan to replace the existing fish Market in a new campus.
Tari informed the fish sellers about the fulfillment of their demand and said, “The police and municipal authorities have taken action against the wholesalers. Busk, Identity cards have been allotted to around 300 fish vendors. They have also been assured to shift them to the new premises within 18 months. Now, it is time for them to shift to the temporary shed specially built for them.”
Caridade Pereira, leader of fish vendors said, “We have been saying that no one should be allowed to sell fish outside the market. Despite assurances from the municipality, this is not happening. We have lost faith in the municipal authorities.”
“Now that we have been given the time, we will discuss and take a call,” said Custodio D’Souza, president of the Old Cross Fishing Owners Association.
