T20 World Cup: Terming the week-long break helpful, Virat Kohli now calls it ‘ridiculous’ at the NZ toss. Cricket News – Times of India

Dubai: Indian captain Virat Kohli Criticizing his team’s first two-match schedule in the ICC T20 World Cup on Sunday, he said it was “ridiculous” to stretch the game for more than a week.
India, who are taking New Zealand In a crucial match this evening, against arch-rivals Pakistan on October 24, exactly seven days back, they played their first match of the tournament.
Kohli said at the toss before the match against New Zealand, “It’s ridiculous, we are playing twice in 10 days. Too long break….”

Interestingly, after the 10-wicket loss to Pakistan, the star batsman had said that this break works well for the team, as players are coming out of the high-intensity IPL.
“I think it works out really well for us from all perspectives. Knowing that we’ve played a full season already, we played the IPL, which in itself was a lot in test conditions here in the United Arab Emirates. It’s high octane, and then we come to the World Cup,” Kohli had said.
“So for us, these big breaks are definitely something that is going to help us as a team stay in prime physical condition that we need to play in this high-intensity tournament,” he had added.
On Sunday, his approach changed, but he admitted that the long break helped his players recover from niggles and other minor injuries.
“Yeah, guys have recovered well. Had good practice sessions, it’s itching to go out on the field, which is a good thing. When you have so many days you want to get down in the park and grove I want to get into,” Kohli added.
Following their fixture against New Zealand, India are scheduled to play Afghanistan on November 3, Scotland on November 5 and Namibia on November 8, which will wind up the league stage of the T20 showpiece.
