T20 WC, India squad: MS Dhoni joins as mentor while Shikhar Dhawan dropped from World Cup squad

ICC T20 World Cup: India has announced its 15-man squad for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup. Prepare yourself for some surprises in the Indian team. MS Dhoni is back in the team as a mentor for the T20 World Cup! Not so, India’s limited overs team’s long-time opener Shikhar Dhawan has been dropped and KL Rahul has been picked as the replacement. Experienced spinner Ravi Ashwin has also made it to the team.

The World Cup will be played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Oman from October 17. The qualification matches will start on 17th while the main tournament will start on 23rd October with Australia vs South Africa.

The Indian team will play its first match against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup to be held on October 24. Team India will then take on New Zealand on 31 October, Afghanistan on 3 November and the qualifying team (B-1) in Super. 12 November 5.

The selection of the 15-man squad is a reflection of good performance not only in the Indian Premier League (IPL) but also in international matches as the squad is being announced ahead of the start of the rest of IPL 2021. Virat Kohli will lead. While Rohit Sharma will be his deputy.

Meanwhile, former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni will join the Indian team as a mentor in the T20 World Cup.

The T20 World Cup was to be played in 2020, but in view of the increasing threat of Kovid-19, the World Cup was postponed till 2021. The venue of the matches has also been changed. Earlier, the matches were to be played in India, but again, due to the COVID-19 restrictions in India, the tournament was scheduled to be played in UAE and Oman.

Even though the venue has changed, India remains the host of the World Cup.
