Natarajan’s rise to cricketing fame from a very humble background was one of the heartwarming cricketing tales of 2020. Last year, Natarajan made his ODI debut followed by the first T20I and ended it with a Test debut at the Gabba. After impressing with his ability to bowl yorkers in IPL 2020 in the United Arab Emirates, Natarajan was initially selected as the net bowler for the tour of Australia, picking up 16 wickets in 16 matches at an economy rate of 8.02.

After that, Natarajan played the fifth T20I against England in Ahmedabad before playing two matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2021. But after that, Natarajan underwent knee surgery, which kept him out of action for a long time. He tried to make a comeback in the second leg of IPL 2021 but a Covid-19 positive report meant that he could not participate in any matches. In all, the 30-year-old has played one Test, two ODIs and four T20Is for India, taking 13 wickets across all formats.

Natarajan played a few matches for Tamil Nadu’s victorious campaign in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, taking six wickets in five matches, including the final against Karnataka. But a knee problem meant that Natarajan could not play in the quarter-finals as well as the semi-finals of the tournament. A knee problem forced him out of the recent group stage of the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
