Syria says Israeli jets carry out rare-day airstrikes on southern coast

Syria’s state broadcaster SANA said Israel carried out a rare airstrike in broad daylight on the southern Syrian coast on Saturday morning. injuring two people.

In line with its policy of generally not commenting on air strikes in the country, there was no comment from the Israel Defense Forces.

Citing a military source, Sanaa said the missiles were launched by Israeli fighter jets over the Mediterranean Sea, west of the northern Lebanese city of Tripoli, south of the Syrian city of al-Hamidiyah, Tartus.

According to Sanaa, the airstrike targeted a “poultry farm”, and injured two civilians. His position was not immediately clear. The site has also been damaged.

Syria often claims the target of Israeli attacks as being non-military.

Israel has carried out hundreds of attacks on targets in Syria over the years, but rarely acknowledges or discusses such operations. It says it targets targets of Iran-allied militias, such as Lebanon’s Hezbollah group, which has fighters stationed in Syria, as well as weapons shipments believed to be bound to various proxies.

According to SANA, the alleged Israeli strikes in Syria usually take place under cover of darkness, with Saturday’s strike reportedly carried out around 6:30 am.

Israel continues to attack Syrian airspace, which is largely controlled by Russia, even as relations with Moscow have deteriorated in recent months. Israel has found itself at odds with Russia as it increasingly backs Ukraine while seeking to maintain freedom of movement in the Syrian skies.

Saturday’s strike marked the first such raid led by Prime Minister Yair Lapid, who entered the role on Friday morning.

Israel is credited with the last attack in Syria, which occurred on 10 June, when the Damascus International Airport was targeted and forced into a major attack. be closed for two weeksAfter the accusations leveled by Israel on Iran smuggled weapons For the Lebanese Hezbollah terrorist group, via civilian flights to Syria.
