Symbiosis Skills and Professional University launches skill development program for transgenders

Symbiosis Skills and Professional University in association with Gravitus Foundation has launched a skill development program to help the transgender community become successful entrepreneurs. The objective of this program is to bring the transgender community into the mainstream of the society and provide them self-employment opportunities.

The project includes certification programs in tailoring, sanitary pad making, beauty services, herbal products etc. “The success of this project will prove to be a major milestone in this mission of providing dignified livelihood to the underprivileged groups,” the university said.

Dr Swati Muzumdar, Pro-Chancellor Symbiosis Skills and Professional University highlighted the need for inclusive education. “We have created a unique model to promote entrepreneurship by collaborating with the industry to buy products made by the students. We are glad that we have been able to give back to the society and contribute to the inclusive growth of the community.”

“We strongly believe that every person has the right to live a dignified life. Our endeavor is to ensure that we reach as many people as possible and help them realize their dreams and live a life with dignity. We have gone a step ahead and tied up with a hospital to buy the products manufactured by the students. Usha Kakade, Chairperson and Managing Director of Gravitas Foundation said that this will help them to become self-reliant and lead a dignified life from day one .
