Reliance BP Mobility will set up battery swapping stations operating under the Jio-BP brand at its retail outlets over the next five years.
The company will also provide technical support and training to Swiggy delivery partners and other employees.
The company is planning to build such stations at major residential and commercial complexes, malls, hotels, business parks, IT hubs, parking lots, etc. across India, to help in faster adoption of EVs, especially in the food delivery segment.
“RBML is setting up a robust and sustainable infrastructure consisting of EV charging hubs and battery swapping stations to provide digitally enabled services to all stakeholders. Our association with Swiggy has the potential to drive disruption and drive EV adoption amongst the distribution and transportation companies in the country. “Swiggy’s fleet handles lakhs of orders every month with an average travel of 80-100 kms with our partners. As we continue to work towards providing greater convenience to our consumers, we are also conscious of the environmental impact of our operations and are taking necessary steps to make our journey more sustainable. The transition to electric vehicles is an important step in this direction. This will not only have a positive impact on the environment, but will also empower our distribution partners to earn more,” said Swiggy CEO Sriharsha Majeti.
High-performance batteries with better on-road range and few minutes for swapping have made battery swapping an ideal solution for two wheelers and three wheelers, especially those in the last-mile delivery segment.
