Suspended BJP Leader Jay Prakash Majumdar Joins TMC In Presence Of Mamata Banerjee

new Delhi: Senior BJP leader Jai Prakash Majumdar, who was sacked from the party in January this year, on Tuesday joined the Trinamool Congress in Kolkata.

Jai Prakash Majumdar joined the ruling TMC in the presence of West Bengal Chief Minister and party chief Mamata Banerjee.

Majumdar was appointed one of the vice presidents of Soon after joining the state committee of TMC, news agency ANI reported.

Senior members of the ruling party including Education Minister Partha Chatterjee and Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim were present on the occasion.

Banerjee also addressed the ceremony, aimed at honoring the International Women’s Day, ahead of Majumdar’s official welcome.

“Jayaprakash Majumdar will be the state vice-president of TMC,” Banerjee was quoted as saying by PTI in her report.

The BJP had in January suspended Jayaprakash Majumdar, who had attacked the saffron party’s state leadership for the past few months. Besides this, Majumdar, Ritesh Tiwari was also suspended from BJP for anti-party activities.

Both were state vice-presidents of the BJP.

Since the TMC’s resounding victory in the 2021 assembly elections, several BJP leaders, including former Union minister Babul Supriyo, have left the TMC.

Several TMC defectors including Mukul Roy, Sabyasachi Dutta and Rajiv Banerjee have also rejoined the party.

Most of them had joined the BJP a few months before the assembly elections.
