Actor Sunny Deol, who made a powerful comeback with Gadar 2, has been accused of not fulfilling his film commitments despite taking a huge advance payment.

Actor Sunny Deol, who delivered a phenomenal blockbuster Gadar 2 last year, has been accused of cheating a film producer of Rs 2.55 crore. Sorav Gupta, a real estate developer turned producer who owns Sundawn Entertainment Pvt Ltd, has levelled shocking allegations of cheating, extortion and forgery against the actor.

Sorav claimed that he met Sunny in May 2016 with the first draft of their film. The actor apparently agreed to do the movie for Rs 4 crore. “We paid him Rs 1 crore in advance. Then in October, he asked for another crore and we made that payment as well,” the producer told Times Now.com/Zoom, adding that Sunny still didn’t start the shoot and went on to film for “Poster Boyz” instead.

The back and forth kept happening until 2022 when Sunny asked Sorav to change the film’s director and rework the script. “In 2023, he only suggested a subject to us. The name of the film was Ram Janmabhoomi. We were told that the script is ready, there is a director onboard and that we just need to execute it. The total budget of the movie was estimated to be around Rs 40 crore, which would be divided 50-50 between us and another partner,” Sorav claimed.

The producer further alleged, “We booked the Filmistan studio, paid the director and other people. In the next meeting, Sunny Deol assured us that the film will be made. But then, he says that his fee has now gone up. So we reached an agreement that Sunny Deol will get Rs 2 crore extra from the profit. Then he requested us to give him Rs 50 lakh more, saying that his son’s wedding was coming up. He told us that he would fetch big returns for the project from the satellite and digital sales. So we paid him Rs 50 lakh.”

Later, Sorav was shocked to receive a hard copy of the agreement that stated Sunny hiked his fee to Rs 8 crore, plus Rs 2 crore from the profits. “Besides, it was mentioned that we have to give him Rs 1 crore more. This wasn’t something we had agreed on nor had we signed those agreement papers. After that, I tried reaching out to Sunny Deol personally and also contacted his team but he never reverted. In all these years, we have spent up to Rs 25 crore directly or indirectly on the project, including the Rs 2.55 crore paid to Sunny Deol,” the producer claimed.

Sorav Gupta has filed a police complaint against the actor. He told reporters in a press con, “The police issued (Sunny Deol) a notice on April 30. His office sent a letter saying he was out of town on the day he was to present himself.”
