Amid speculations that KL Rahul will be made the Test captain after Virat Kohli stepped down, former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has made an unusual statement.
He believes that Rishabh Pant should be made India’s new Test match captain. Many would dismiss the possible appointment of the “always chirping” Rishabh Pant, but not Gavaskar. He says that “the sense of responsibility given to Rishabh Pant will help him score many more runs in that scintillating hundred he scored at Newlands”.
Gavaskar cited the appointment of Rohit Sharma as the captain of Mumbai Indians in 2013 and explained how the responsibility of firepower improved Rohit’s game in the IPL for MI. “The way Rohit Sharma was given the captaincy of Mumbai Indians when Ricky Ponting stepped down, watch his batting change. Gavaskar said the captain should be someone who is an automatic pick in all formats of the game.

He said, “I think from what we have seen in the IPL with Rishabh Pant as captain of Delhi Capitals, I believe he has the potential to take Indian cricket forward and make it a very exciting team to watch. Is.”
The great Indian batsman also cited the example of Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, who was made the captain of the Indian team at the age of 21. Gavaskar said, “Tiger Pataudi was the captain in adverse circumstances at the age of 21, when Nari Contractor was injured. See what he did after that. He captained like water from a duck.”
