Filmmaker Sundar C is now basking in the success of his most recently released Aranmarai 4. The film, which falls into the comedy horror genre, received a positive reception and went on to be one of the highest-grossing Tamil films of 2024. However, with all the positive feedback he is receiving now, one cannot help but wonder about what happened to one of Sundar C’s ambitious projects Madha Gaja Raja.
The director-actor, in April, shared insights about his unreleased film Madha Gaja Raja, starring Vishal, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, and Anjali. During the media address at the trailer launch of Aranmanai 4, he discussed the current status of Madha Gaja Raja and its prospects.
Madha Gaja Raja, directed by Sundar C, has been shelved for an extended period. The film’s trailer was released as early as 2013, with production backed by Vishal Film Factory and Gemini Film Circuit. Despite these efforts, the film has not yet been released. At the Aranmanai 4 trailer release event, Sundar C was asked about the status of Madha Gaja Raja.
He said, “You should visit the producer’s office and ask him this question directly. Vishal and I have even offered to purchase and release the film ourselves. Despite being made in 2013, I believe it would still entertain audiences today. The producer delayed the release to settle his previous debts. The film still has strong potential to be profitable. Please assist the producer by asking him about it. Thank you.”
However, it looks like the film may have finally found a release date. Reports say that the 2013 film will finally be released in theatres on September 5. Although no official confirmation about the release date has been announced yet, the news of the September 5 release for Madha Gaja Raja has been doing the rounds recently.
However, this may be unlikely as September 5 has been locked for the release of Thalapathy Vijay’s film GOAT. Considering Vijay’s huge stardom and the fan frenzy around his films, it seems implausible that a film that is thought to have been shelved and forgotten will clash against a Vijay film. It remains to be seen whether Vijay and Vishal are up for a clash at the box office.
