Sulochana Dies at 94: PM Modi Offers Condolences, Big B Says He Had Been ‘Monitoring Her Condition’

Veteran actress Sulochana passed away on Sunday at the age of 94. The actress was seen in more than 300 films in her career. These included blank paper, lucky charms and cut kites. Following the heartbreaking news of his demise, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter and expressed his condolences. He was accompanied by Amitabh Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh and Madhuri Dixit.

Sulochana ji’s demise has left a huge void in the world of Indian cinema. His unforgettable performances have enriched our culture and endeared him generation after generation. His cinematic legacy will live on through his works. Condolences to his family. Om Shanti,” PM Modi tweeted.

Meanwhile, Amitabh Bachchan spoke with ETimes and revealed that he sent her his most favorite gift – a handwritten letter. He said, “She played my mother in the maximum number of films after Nirupa Roy ji. Sulochana ji was truly like a mother to both the Hindi and Marathi film industry. The beautiful handwritten letter she sent me on my 75th birthday , that I remember even today. It was one of the sweetest gifts I have ever received,” he said.

Big B wrote on his blog, “We have lost another great personality of cinema – Sulochana ji.. a gentle, generous, caring mother who worked with me in many films.. She has been ill for some time.” ..and today afternoon she left for her heavenly abode..I along with her family was monitoring her condition..but finally sad news!In such dire circumstances all we can do is pray.. ‘

“I have done many films with him. I cannot remember a time when Sulochana ji was not a part of the film industry. Asha Parekh said, we all gave her the same respect that we had given to our real mother.

Madhuri Dixit admitted that she will miss her interactions with the late actress the most. “Sulochana Tai was one of cinema’s most loved and graceful actresses. Sangat Aika will always be my favorite film of his. His performance in every film was memorable. I will miss our conversation may you rest in peace. Madhuri said on Twitter, your contribution to Indian cinema will always be remembered.

Sulochana died in Mumbai on Sunday. He was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Mumbai. His last rites will take place on Monday from 11 am to 5 pm with cremation at his residence at Shivaji Park cremation ground.
