Ludhiana: Shiromani Akali Party (SAD) President Sukhbir Singh Badal On Tuesday the Chief Minister said Charanjit Singh Channi was trying to fool people just like his predecessor Captain Amarinder Singh And there was no intention of fulfilling the promises made by them including reduction in electricity rates by Rs 3 for domestic consumers.
Talking to reporters here, the SAD president said, “The Chief Minister is doing political stunts. Channi admitted yesterday saying that he only wants the consumers to get a lower electricity bill. even Navjot Sidhu Exposing his own government, he has said that only 2 months relaxation is being given to fool the voters. The objections raised by Sidhu have also left the door open for the Congress party to renegotiate this promise.
Sukhbir Badal said Channi failed to explain how he would fulfill his promise while his government’s corruption and mismanagement had virtually bankrupted PSPCL. He said that the state government is owed Rs 4,500 crore in agriculture subsidy of PSPCL and Rs 2,231 crore on its departments. “If you take into account all the subsidies including Rs 3300 crore due to the latest announcement and the exempted bills from the subsidy bill will come to Rs 13,934 crore”.
Emphasizing that the government does not have a road map to meet the financial needs of PSPCL, Badal said that this mismanagement would result in shutdown of thermal planets, disruption of coal supply, salaries to employees. Failure to deliver will result in massive power cuts.
Speaking about the government’s intention to cancel the PPAs of private thermal plants, he said that if the government intends to do so then it should come up with an executive order instead of just proposals which will achieve nothing. “The government should keep in mind the challenge of getting 4,000 MW of power at similar or cheaper rates along with a fine of around Rs 10,000 crore. The present track record of the government inspires no confidence. He has purchased electricity at the rate of Rs 12 to Rs 15 per unit when he has captive power plants which are obliged to supply him electricity less than Rs 3 per unit.
Similarly, executive decisions should be taken to deny extension of BSF’s jurisdiction along with non-implementation of 3 agricultural laws, he added. Punjab From 15 kms as decided by the Center to the present 50 kms.
Speaking about other promises made by the Chief Minister, Badal said that the Congress government has not released a single installment of Dearness Allowance to the employees in the last four and a half years. He said that there are dues of Rs 5,000 crore on the employees, which should be cleared first before making further announcements. He said that similarly there is arrears of Pay Commission of Rs 12,000 crore, which was to be paid in nine half yearly installments and the burden of which will be borne by the next government like any other.
Commenting on the state’s financial health, Badal said that during the Congress rule, the debt of the states had increased to Rs 91,000 crore. It has now increased to Rs 2.73 lakh crore from the previous government’s loan of Rs 1.82 lakh crore.
