The much awaited big starrer Kannada film Kotigobba 3 got stalled on its release day itself. This is the first major film to release after cinemas were allowed 100 per cent occupancy after the second wave. The film’s lead actor Kichha Sudeep has apologized to the fans for the cancellation and requested them not to do any harm for it anywhere.
The film Kotigobba 3 with a budget of over Rs 25 crore is the third film in the famous Kotigobba franchise. The first film starred the legendary actor Vishnuvardhan. Kotigobba 2 and 3 starring Sudeep as the lead actor. Madonna Sebastian stars opposite Sudeep. This is his first film in Kannada.
Kotigoba 3 was scheduled to release on Thursday at 6 am at the Dancer Theater in Bengaluru. It was named ‘Fans Show’. Fan shows were organized in some other selected movie halls. Excited fans arrived an hour ago with flower garlands and sweets to celebrate the release of their favorite actor’s film after more than two years. The first show did not open and people got confused. By around 7.30 in the morning, it was clear that there would be no First Day First Show. But the next show was expected at 10.30 am. Initially, producer Soorappa Babu said that it was a technical snag and it would be resolved soon. Fans eagerly waited till the morning show which did not happen. The situation was the same in 300 cinemas across the state.
Ticket booking for the day was suspended on various online portals and the movie team announced the refund of the ticket amount to all those who had booked.
Producers Guild and release date
Prominent producers of Kannada film industry aka Chandan formed a team and called it ‘producers’ guild’ during the pandemic. Once the Covid restrictions were relaxed step by step, the team visited the Chief Minister and several officials and tried to persuade them to allow 100 per cent audience in theatres.
He decided to live in unity and make the best of whatever situation comes. The second wave was followed by three big films waiting to be released, namely Kotigobba 3, Salga and Bhajrangi 2. All the producers of these three films sat together and came to a conclusion supporting each other. It was earlier decided that Salaga will release on October 1, Kotigobba 3 on October 14 and Bhajrangi 2 on October 29. But the state government allowed full occupancy in cinemas from October 3.
Now, all the movie teams want to release at least 2 weeks before the promotion. Hence the Salaga team (Producer: Srikanth) deferred the release to October 14. Kotigoba 3 producer Soorappa Babu said that he will also postpone the release date of October 29. But the team of Bhajrangi 2 (Producer: Jayanna) did not agree to go ahead with their earlier scheduled date. So the Cotigoba 3 team was also stuck till 14th October, which is today. Since no film in other languages was released, both the teams decided to release on the same day. Both the teams also wished each other on social media. Duniya Vijay starrer Salga released today without any problem and is running successfully. This is Vijay’s first project as a director.
Multiple reasons for sudden delay
But with Cotigoba 3 release the unforeseen situation has created chaos. Initially it was said to be a technical fault. But now industry insiders say that the distributors were not paid by the producer and hence they stopped the show. Whatever be the reason, the film has come to a standstill.
Producer Soorappa Babu has said that the ruckus happened because some people “betrayed” him. In the video that News18 has, he has apologized to Sudeep and his fans and said that the film will be released tomorrow morning at 6 am across the state. There are also rumors that the rift between the actor and the producer could also be the reason for today’s issue. Apart from a press conference to announce the release of the film, Sudeep has not participated in any promotional campaign of the film till now and this has raised some eyebrows. Kotigobba 3 is directed by Siva Karthikeyan. Sudeep, Madanna Sebastian, Ravi Shankar are the main actors.
