‘Such amount spent on agriculture sector’: Telangana CM announces procurement of paddy in Yasangi season

Putting an end to the confusion among farmers over the purchase of paddy and the dispute between the central government and the state, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Tuesday announced that the state government would directly procure agricultural produce in yasangi (summer season). Whatever be the quantity. For this, a committee will be constituted under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary in three days.

Giving details of the decisions taken in the cabinet meeting, Rao, commonly known as KCR, said the government would procure food grains at Rs 1,960 per quintal.

He said that foodgrain procurement centers would be set up in every village of the state. The amount would be deposited in the bank accounts of the farmers after the purchase of food grains, he said and appealed to the farmers not to sell their produce at low prices.

KCR elaborated on various programs and welfare schemes such as Rythu Bandhu and Rythu Bandhu, free power supply to the agriculture sector in Telangana. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s own state Gujarat does not have free power supply to the agriculture sector and alleged that the central government was planning to “hand over the agriculture sector to corporate companies”.

“We tried our best to put pressure on the Center to buy the crop, but it did not happen. We are spending so much amount on agriculture sector. We will also spend on procurement,” KCR said.

He said that the state council of ministers has also decided to cancel GO 111 in 83 villages to put a complete stop on unmanageable industrialization and major construction activities and pollution of Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar.

“The said GO has been issued to meet the drinking water needs of the people living under the limits of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).
