The Presidency University in Kolkata on Saturday said that the decision on admission to undergraduate and postgraduate courses will be taken keeping in mind the interests of the students. The university’s statement came after a meeting between the students’ union and the authority after around 40 students started a sit-in on the campus.

The students were demanding that the university should not participate in the central admission process to be conducted for state-run universities for undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

“The authority assured us that the autonomy of our university will be upheld on the issues related to admission. All decisions related to admission to UG and PG courses will be decided by the university without any outside interference,” said a spokesperson of the student union.

A university official said that the views of the students would be taken into consideration before taking a final decision on the admission process.
