Students Injured in Clash Between ABVP, SFI in Himachal Pradesh University

Some students were injured in a clash between members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad and the student union. India at the Himachal Pradesh University here on Tuesday, said police.

The RSS-affiliated ABVP alleged that activists of the CPI(M)’s student wing SFI harassed its women members and attacked others, injuring eight of them.

However, the SFI claimed that the ABVP “engineered” the attack to disrupt its protest against the university’s Enterprise Resource System (ERP) – an online assessment system.

Based on the allegations leveled by both the sides against each other, an FIR has been registered against six members of ABVP, six members of SFI and others, police said.

He said that investigation has been started in the matter.

ABVP president Sachin Rana alleged that some women members of the group were harassed by SFI workers.

He claimed that SFI workers also attacked ABVP members with weapons, eight of whom were injured.

Refuting the allegations, SFI University Campus Secretary Surjeet said the attack was carried out by ABVP members to fuel their agitation against the university’s ‘faulty’ ERP system.

“On Tuesday morning, ABVP members pelted stones at SFI workers and attacked them with weapons,” he alleged.

“Despite several FIRs being registered against ABVP activists in the past, no action has been taken by the police,” he said.

The SFI has alleged that the pass percentage has been poor due to deficiencies in the ERP of the university, which has become a cause of acute mental stress for the students.
