Stree 2 director Amar Kaushik recently revealed why CBFC members replaced the Neha Kakkar joke in the film with ‘Sneha Kakkar’. Amar revealed that the members said that such jokes might upset certain people. Amar agreed with their point and said that despite the change, people understood the real meaning.

Amar told Bollywood Hungama, “The CBFC members pointed that aise jokes se bura lag sakta hai. We thought they had a valid point and hence, didn’t request them to let us retain the dialogue. Anyway, logon ko toh samaj mein aa gaya.”

He continued, “When you write comedy, you end up having such jokes. Like when you are sitting with friends, you would pass such comments. That’s where the fun happens. The intention of writer Niren Bhatt and mine was that the way people get humour in their lives, we want to follow suit. We don’t put gags. Humko ‘gag’ word se hi nafrat hai! When someone says ‘Ek gag daal dete hai’, I am like ‘Nahin chahiye mujhe gag’. Gag is akin to puking for me!”

Amar Kaushik said, “The CBFC members that we met this time were intelligent and sensible. They heard our point of view. We could have got many cuts. They told us, ‘Yes, yeh dialogue mein problem hai but if we cut it, it’ll affect the narrative and we know you added it for so-and-so reason. Hence, we won’t censor it’. I was surprised. We were prepared that a lot of dialogues will get cut.”

Meanwhile, Stree 2 is proving to be a box office juggernaut, showing impressive numbers in its first week of release. The film, directed by Amar Kaushik, raked in an estimated Rs 255.35 crore in India net over its first six days. On its seventh day, the film continued its strong run, adding another Rs 20 crore to its tally, bringing its total to a staggering Rs 275.35 crore in just seven days.

The success of Stree 2 is particularly noteworthy given the stiff competition it faced from other big releases. Akshay Kumar and Taapsee Pannu’s Khel Khel Mein and John Abraham’s Vedaa also hit theatres around the same time, but Stree 2 managed to carve out a significant share of the audience, largely due to high anticipation and positive word of mouth.

The film brings back Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor in their iconic roles, continuing the eerie tale of Chanderi, now threatened by a new terror, Sarkata. The townspeople once again rely on Stree for their salvation. Adding to the excitement, Stree 2 includes surprise cameos, most notably Varun Dhawan as Bhediya.
