Stray animals harass people in Haveri. Hubli News – Times of India

There is no end to the danger associated with stray cattle, dogs and pigs in the city as they are ubiquitous, freely roaming the streets.

Haveri: There seems to be no end to the menace of stray cattle, dogs and pigs in the city as they are omnipresent, roaming freely on the streets.
Stray animals are often found obstructing vehicular movement, which at times lead to accidents. While pigs create a nuisance, dogs threaten the public, especially in the wee hours of the night.
Stray cattle roam various places in the city, especially near Hosamani Siddappa circle and on NH-48. The Haveri City Municipal Council (CMC) has directed the animal owners to shift them to their premises by August 21. Those who fail to comply with the instructions will be dealt with under the Town Municipal Act (1964).
BJP leader Basavaraj Masoor said that the situation is getting serious due to the increasing number of stray animals. “The herds of cows can be seen on various roads and interior parts of the city. At night time, motorists find it difficult to drive/ride because of them,” he said.
MS Korishettar, a social activist from the city, said people are finding it difficult to move around due to the menace of stray animals. “There has been a huge increase in the number of stray pigs. But pig owners are also not worried about invading public places, including residential areas. People are also exposed to health risks,” he said.
Nagraj Kulkarni, a resident of Bharti Nagar, said: “Stray dogs keep threatening people at night. Most of them have made major road junctions their homes. We have appealed to the local authorities to shift them out of the city. But the CMC has not taken action yet,” he said.
CMC commissioner Parashuram Chaluvadi said he has directed the owners of stray cattle and pigs to take their animals out of the city by August 21. “If they don’t, we will launch an operation to nab them,” he warned.
