Stock Market Calendar 2021: Is the stock market open today? Know BSE, NSE, MCX Trading Hours

Indian stock exchanges – BSE (formerly Bombay Stock Exchange) and NSE (National Stock Exchange of India) will remain closed on Friday, 15 October on the occasion of Dussehra. As per the BSE holiday calendar, the equity segment, equity derivatives segment and securities lending and borrowing (SLB) segment will remain closed on October 15. Commodity markets will remain closed for the morning session on October 15. Regular trading in the evening session will take place as per the schedule. For traders in commodities, the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will remain closed for the first time on Friday between 9 am and 5 pm. It will be open from 5 pm to 11.30 pm during the second part of the session. Similarly, the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange Limited (NCDEX) will remain closed during the morning session from 9 am to 5 pm and will resume operations from 5 pm to 9 pm.

The stock market will also be closed on October 16 and October 17 due to the weekend. Therefore, equity exchanges will reopen for trading after three days on Monday only.

On Thursday or October 14, the Sensex and Nifty reached new record levels with gains for the sixth consecutive session. BSE Sensex closed above 61,000 mark for the first time. The 30-share index ended 568.90 points or 0.94 per cent higher at 61,305.95. The Sensex also set its latest intraday record of 61,353.25 during the day’s trading. On the Sensex, ITC was the top gainer followed by HDFC Bank, PowerGrid, ICICI Bank, IndusInd Bank and NTPC. On the other hand, TCS, HCL Tech, Bajaj Finance, Asian Paints and Bharti Airtel were among the laggards. Similarly, the NSE Nifty closed at a new high of 18,338.55, up 176.80 points or 0.97 per cent. Nifty touched a new record of 18,350.25 during intraday.

The stock market hit new highs on October 15 on better macroeconomic data and positive global cues. Wholesale price-based inflation eased to 10.66 per cent in September, helped by moderation in food prices, while crude petroleum saw a spike. Retail inflation in September also eased to a five-month low of 4.4 per cent on softening food prices.

According to the BSE calendar, there will be two holidays in the stock market in November on account of Diwali. BSE, NSE will remain closed on Diwali Lakshmi Pujan, November 4 (Thursday) and Diwali Balipratipada, November 5 (Friday).

There are 14 holidays in the stock market in 2021. Markets were closed for three days in April, the highest in any month – Good Friday on April 2, Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti on April 14 and Ram Navami on April 21.
