LUDHIANA: The Special Task Force ,STF) of Punjab Police on Thursday claimed to have busted a drug ring following the arrest of an international kabaddi player and detaining of a former DSP and another cop.
STF sources said that a former DSP and an inspector, posted in Jalandhar district for a while, had been detained and an international kabaddi player had been arrested from Karnal in Haryana, They added that the kabaddi player owned a palatial bungalow as well as many luxury cars.
According to STF officials, the accused used to supply drugs under police security. They added that the force had seized luxury vehicles that were allegedly used for drug peddling from the player’s house as well as 100 grams of intoxicant powder and cash.
Sources further said that Gurjant Singh of the US, Devinder Singh of Canada, wife of the kabaddi player and a police official were among the 12 people named in the case. They added that two cops had kept account of drugs sold by the accused.
STF officials also indicated that a chartered accountant may be questioned in the case and the accused “peddler” may have links with an influential politician.
