Last year, a total of 5,709 theft cases were reported across all metro stations, resulting in 2,407 cases being registered and 599 arrests made. Among these incidents, 113 vehicles were reported stolen, with 96 cases being resolved. Furthermore, out of 22 reported cases of molestation, 21 were resolved, leading to action taken against 24 individuals.
DCP Metro, Ram Gopal Nayak, anticipates improvements in the metro station conditions moving forward. He mentioned the identification of hotspots and ongoing actions in those areas. 25 Station House Officers (SHOs) were instructed to identify these stations and categorize the crimes accordingly, facilitating easier action and identification of such places.
Nayak noted that criminals often transit from less crowded stations to more crowded ones. They typically operate in groups, with both men and women involved. These gangs employ tactics to lure victims, often targeting them during boarding and deboarding of the metro, with cash or jewelry being common targets.
