The Sunday Morning reports that the players have written a letter to the Sri Lanka board asking them to honor the contract and clear the old dues at the earliest.

In the letter, the players have written, ‘Due to the new contract, we have not been paid any kind since January 2021. The players are unclear about the new contract. They should be informed of this in writing. Under the new contract, players’ salaries will have to be cut by 30 percent.

A source said the lack of annual contracts has hit the players badly. It is difficult for them to pay even the house installment and insurance for their parents. Some have even stopped their marriages. Junior players find themselves caught in a tussle between senior players and the board. It looks like his career will end without any contract as he has not been picked for the current series.

Sri Lanka legend Muttiah Murlithara has hit out at senior players over the impasse. The spin great is part of the Technical Advisory Committee of the Sri Lanka Cricket Board. Muralitharan said that since players like Dimuth Karunaratne and Angelo Mathews are getting less salary as per the new contract, they are trying to stop and disrupt the careers of junior players for their own benefit.

The report also suggests that junior players are looking to get out of this controversy and their annual salary will also increase. In such a situation, the players have written a letter to the board where they have agreed. The players have requested the board to implement the contract from January 1, 2021.
