captain of india Shikhar Dhawan Hint on Thursday that not playing the T20 International series was an option after losing nine players in COVID-19 related isolation but chose the difficult route of playing with only five specialist batsmen.

India lost the three-match T20I series 1-2 by seven wickets.

“It was a difficult situation for us but as a team we decided to stay and play the series,” Dhawan said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

Asked what he learned as a team leader, Dhawan said: “Lots of learning for me as captain. Last game was close. Today was a holiday for the batting unit but the boys will learn from it. We lost too many wickets today and the Sri Lankan bowlers bowled well.”

“It was always about playing the catcher after losing a lot of wickets.

“When you lose wickets early and you don’t have a long bat, you are under pressure. Both the teams played with great spirit and it is a beautiful feeling. The Sri Lankan captain and the players wanted to know about my process. So I told him and I hope he enjoys hearing it”.

Wanindu Hasaranga was adjudged the Player of the Match as well as the Player of the Series.

“The wicket was slow and our spinners bowled really well,” he said.

“When I bowl, I always try to bowl the dot ball. It helps in taking wickets. Fielding also helps. I am really happy because the other boys have done the whole series in both ODIs and T20Is. I played really well.”
