‘Squid Game’ Season 2 To Return With New Cast Members In 2024

New Delhi: The second season of the survival game show series ‘Squid Game’ has added four additional cast members, Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Sung-hoon and Yang Dong-gyuen.

Netflix made the announcement on Saturday at its Tudum event outside Brazil, reports Variety.

Four newcomers join returning cast members Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Y Ha-joon, and Gong Yoo, who played lead roles in Season 1.

At a Netflix press conference in September 2022, director Hwang Dong-hyuk revealed that the second season is set to premiere on the streamer in 2024.

“We will start shooting season 2 next year (in 2023) and it will be released next year,” Hwang said.

Season 2 of the Korean series will have big shoes to fill. ‘The Squid Game’ was a phenomenon for Netflix, clocking 1.65 billion hours in 28 days. Record-breaking viewership followed by a historic Emmy win for the cast and crew of ‘Squid Game’.

With 14 nominations, the series won a total of six, including Outstanding Directing, Production Design, Special Visual Effects, Stunt Performance, Actress in a Guest Role for Lee Yoo-mi and Lead Actor for Lee Jung-jae, who also became First Asian actor to win in the category.

In addition to announcing the Season 2 cast, Netflix announced at the ToDoom event, that controversial unscripted competition spinoff ‘Squid Game: The Challenge’ is set to premiere in November.

The announcement followed a Variety report that the new competition series was “inhumane”, with one contestant claiming that “the conditions were absolutely inhumane and had nothing to do with sport”.
