Addressing the gathering, Thakur sought suggestions from young athletes to improve the sports ecosystem in the country. He then said that several initiatives will be taken by the government to help nurture the culture of sports in India.
“You (junior athletes) are an inspiration to other sportspersons of the country,” he said. “You have done a tremendous job in bringing us fame even in this difficult time of the pandemic, your journey has been excellent and I assure you that no compromise will be made to help you in your sporting journey,” he added.

The minister further recalled that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said that sport is about dedication, determination and hard work and that all our athletes are winners in their own right, when he told the athletes, who did not win any medals, do not despair. be.
Thakur also said that he was happy to know that the former champions are becoming coaches and it is a good sign for the welfare of sports. World Championships long jump medalists were also present Anju Bobby George, Head Coach (Junior) Kamal Ali Khan and other dignitaries from Mantralaya, Athletics Federation of India and Sports Authority of India.
17-year-old style coach Robert Bobby George, who was present at the event, said India needs to work towards changing the attitude of parents to promote sports culture. He said that parents should make sports an integral part of their children’s curriculum.
