‘Spirit of cricket’: Rohit, Bumrah, Kohli congratulate Suranga Lakmal on her last international match – watch

India captain Rohit Sharma and his deputy Jasprit Bumrah congratulated Sri Lanka’s Suranga Lakmal who played his last international for Sri Lanka in Bengaluru on Monday. Hosts 2. wonRa Test match by 238 runs but his gesture towards the fast bowler won millions of hearts on social media.

Lakmal went to bat for the last time in his Test career as Sri Lanka were chasing 447 on the third day of the Bengaluru Test. He faced just four balls before Bumrah took India close to a clinical series win in the third session.

As he headed towards the dressing room, Bumrah rushed to congratulate Lakmal on a remarkable Test career. Players like Rohit, Virat Kohli, Hanuma Vihari and Axar Patel went to the Sri Lankan cricketer to shake hands with him.

The video of the incident has been shared by BCCI on Twitter.

The caption read, “The spirit of cricket at its best #TeamIndia Congratulations to Suranga Lakmal who played his last international match.”

In his 13-year long cricket career, Lakmal played 70 Tests, 86 ODIs and 11 T20Is for Sri Lanka in which he took 171, 109 and 8 wickets respectively.

Earlier, on the third day of the Day-Night Test match, India extinguished whatever little spark Sri Lanka showed. The hosts ended the game within three days for a comprehensive 238-run victory, a 2–0 elimination of the Islanders.

After promising wines, the hosts have scored a 2-0 series sweep and 12 points as part of the World Test Championship (WTC) tally.

With a point percentage of 58.33, Team India has overtaken Sri Lanka which is now fifth in the points table. The top four teams are Australia (77.77%), Pakistan (66.66%) and South Africa (60.00%) respectively.
