‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ swings to $240 million debut after record-breaking opening day

New Delhi: Tom Holland-starrer “Spider-Man: No Way Home” has raked in a whopping $121.5 million from 4,336 locations on Friday, leading itself to an estimated $242 million opening weekend.

As Variety.com reports, it’s a performance it hasn’t seen since 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame,” which grossed $156.7 million on its first day.

Not only is “No Way Home” the first pandemic-era film to cross the $100 million mark in its first weekend of release, but its success normally measures the parameters of a pandemic-era box office.

The film scored the second highest opening day in domestic box office history. The single-day total of $121.5 million is also the highest December opening ever and a franchise-best for Sony’s “Spider-Man” series, surpassing 2017’s “Homecoming” and “Far From Home.” Beats day totals in just one. Pleasure trip

Due to high anticipation among fans and a spoiler-phobic culture, Marvel movies skewer from the front in their first weekend, with many viewers striving to see a new release as soon as possible.

However, when the opening weekend gets that big, the numbers may start to snowball rather than drop.

“Endgame” jumped its $156.7 million opening day to a $357.1 million weekend, while 2018’s “Avengers: Infinity War” went from a $106 million opening day to a $257.6 million weekend.

For those monster performances akin to “No Way Home” trends, its final weekend total could exceed an estimated $242 million.

Directed by Jon Watts, “No Way Home” begins after Peter Parker’s superhero identity is revealed to everyone, leading to his world as well as his girlfriend MJ (Zendaya), Aunt May (Marissa Tomei) and best friend Ned (Mr. Jacob’s world goes too. battalion) in spin.

In an effort to return to normalcy, Parker confides in Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and asks the Sorcerer Supreme to cast a spell that will make the world forget that he is Spider-Man.

The spell goes awry, uncovering a variety of villains from other Spider-Men’s universes, including Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin, Jamie Foxx’s Electro and Alfred Molina’s Doctor Otto Octavius.
