SpiceJet confirms there is no unusual sick reporting as all pilots report for duty

SpiceJet, one of India’s affordable air carriers, today confirmed its zero “unusual ill reporting”. In addition, the airline confirms that all of its pilots have reported for their respective duties, while promoting a concerted misinformation campaign against the company. The clarification came after select SpiceJet pilots circulated a message that the captain and the first officer will go on sick leave today to protest against the reduced pay. In addition, a significant number of maintenance technicians recently took sick leave to demonstrate their agitation against low wages. These technicians belonged to Indigo and Go First airlines. Nevertheless, flight operations of both the airlines remained unaffected.

In a statement, SpiceJet said a misinformation campaign was being launched against the airline, claiming that some pilots had reported ill on Thursday.

“This information is false, baseless and strongly denied. There are no unusual ill reports today and all pilots have reported for duty. All our flights have departed as scheduled,” the statement said. ”

The airline urged everyone not to be misled by fake news and be a part of the misinformation campaign being spread by people with unknowingly vested interests to damage its reputation and obstruct an essential service.

“We are closely monitoring the situation. For the time being, operations are normal. Hopefully it will be resolved soon,” the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said in a statement on the ‘sick leave protest’ on Wednesday.

Sources said IndiGo has initiated disciplinary action against aircraft maintenance technicians who have gone on mass sick leave to protest low wages in the last six days.
