noida accidentThe youngest of three sisters died, while the other two were seriously injured after a speeding car hit them in a busy market in Noida on Tuesday. Police said the 24-year-old driver has been arrested. Police have registered a case against the driver under sections 304A (causing death by negligence) and 279 (rash driving) of the Indian Penal Code.

“The incident took place on Sunday evening at Som Bazar, which falls under Sector 39 police station area. The three sisters Riya (6), Anu (15) and Ankita (18) had gone to the market with their mother Pushpa. A police officer said, when the Maruti Swift DZire hit the girls, they were having some snacks on the roadside.

“All the three sisters were injured and were taken to a hospital here. Riya was later referred to Delhi for treatment. He died during treatment on Monday morning in Delhi.

According to the police, the accused driver, identified as Sanoj, a native of Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri district, has been arrested. After hitting the girls, the car went out of control and came to rest after hitting a pile of bricks kept on the roadside, the police officer said. The driver, who was allegedly drunk, was caught by the locals while another passenger of the car managed to escape from the spot, the official said.
