Police said Ajay Gupta, who runs a grocery store, was returning home when he was crushed to death
A 36-year-old man died after being hit by a speeding car near the metro station in west Delhi’s Moti Bagh in the early hours of Sunday, police said.
He said Ajay Gupta, who runs a grocery shop, was returning home when he was crushed to death.
The car was being driven by a 28-year-old woman. The Ashok Vihar resident, an architect by profession, was allegedly speeding when she first hit the generator and then ran over Gupta. Police said she was returning from a party in Greater Kailash when the accident occurred.
He told that the woman has been arrested.
Police received a PCR call at 4.08 am regarding the accident. On reaching the spot, two vehicles were found in a damaged condition on the road leading to the Moti Nagar flyover. Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Ghanshyam Bansal said that neither the driver of the attacking vehicle nor the victim was found at the spot.
The driver of the hit vehicle admitted the injured Gupta to ABG Hospital, from where his relatives took him to ESI Hospital. The police who reached the spot did not find the victim ready to give her statement. Bansal said that he later succumbed to his injuries.
“During interrogation, it was found that the victim was going home after taking medicines from the hospital, while the woman was returning home from a party,” the officer said.
Gupta is survived by his wife and two children, who live in Basai Darapur. His relatives told the police that Gupta had left home late at night to collect medicines.
The police registered a case under Indian Penal Code sections 279 (driving or riding a vehicle in a public way), 337 (causing injury to life or personal safety of others) and later under section 304A (causing death by negligence) Case has been registered. ,
Police said Gupta’s body has been sent to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital for postmortem.
