special | Raveena Tandon: I don’t attend big birthday parties, but will spend with people I love

Raveena Tandon is a rare example of excellence Bollywood Heroine whose appeal has stood the test of time. It has rediscovered itself and adapted over time, and is also associated and popular among the present generation. From starring in cult classics like Andaz Apna Apna, to top-grossing films like Mohra and Laadla, to receiving accolades for her powerful performances in Aks and Daman – Raveena has done it all, proving she’s a stereotype. only exists as long as you make them.

She will soon be seen in a Netflix web series as well as one of the most awaited South film sequels, KGF Chapter 2. The actress, currently in the US with her daughter Rasha, took out time to chat with News18 ahead of her. Birthday on 26 October to reflect on his life and career. Part:

Was this US trip planned to coincide with your birthday?

I didn’t plan to be in the US for my birthday, as my son and my husband Anil are in Mumbai, so we actually had to go back. I have come along with my daughter to do recce for her college. And then she attended a few courses over here. There was a really cool, interesting course that she wanted to do for another two weeks. So we just stayed for it. I was actually supposed to be back this week, but now we have to stop because she wants to finish her course.

How do you usually spend your birthday?

Last year it was covid time so we celebrated at home with mom, dad, my kids and Anil and some close friends. I’ve always liked it that way. I usually never party. A year before Covid hit, Anil and Rasha had planned this huge surprise party for me. And it was with all my close friends. We had such a party after so many years, and after that, can you imagine, COVID hit.

I’m not really into big parties. I’m having fun with friends, not big parties where you don’t know who’s coming. You will spend it with the people you really love and that is your group of friends. The best part is that you can get really mad because they are so close to you that no one judges you by what you do.

Birthdays are also a time to reflect on the past and plan ahead. Do you think of anything special?

I don’t regret anything about the past. I believe that my destiny had to follow a certain path. If I had changed one small thing, I probably wouldn’t be where I am right now. I look forward to working continuously. I enjoy working birthdays. I never grew up thinking that I would ever become an actor. I am completely by default in this industry. This just happened to me. If you look at my interviews from the 90s till now, I have always said that I never wanted to be an actress.

Despite being a commercially successful actress, you also took up a variety of projects. Was that a caution call?

When I started doing films like Satta, Shool, Ghulam-e-Mustafa, Aks, it was a conscious effort as I was getting bored of doing same kind of roles. I wanted to be a part of interesting scripts, to play characters that challenge me. For example, a lot of actors are very comfortable playing exactly that in real life, but there are few who try to go beyond that.

I have played many different characters in most of my films, be it a city girl, a rich kid, or a middle class Bihari housewife with a Bihari accent, or a Himachali cop with a Himachali accent. Andaz Apna Apna be it comedy or wow! Tera Kya Kehna with Hyderabadi accent. Or playing a glamorous negative character in Aks, for which I won so many awards. I have tried to do various things out of my comfort zone. You will see the release of Ek Daman after Dulhe Raja, or Aks Ke Baad Satta, where I play the role of a staunch politician. Raveena has not played Raveena in all her films.

Now how do you choose your projects?

I enjoy doing television, judging these reality shows. It’s so exciting, it’s so real. It is unfolding to you, it is unexpected, it is spontaneous. All feelings are real. That’s why I enjoy judging these shows. As far as OTT platforms are concerned, I honestly choose scripts that excite me a lot. I wouldn’t take on a project just because it’s art and intellectual and it gives me a chance to really perform. If I find the movie boring, will I spend 2 hours watching it? If the answer is no in my mind, if it’s not bothering me, then I don’t. My criterion is the script, it has to be something that I stick to for two hours.
