In the new population policy, attention will also be given to the elderly, education, health, nutrition of adolescents between 11 and 19 years.

The Uttar Pradesh government will unveil its new population policy for 2021-30 on the occasion of World Population Day on July 11. The policy aims to focus on population control.

The policy includes a new proposal for a fair system for safe abortion. Also, people who help in the family planning program of the government will be given special incentives.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday reviewed the preparations for the government’s upcoming population control plan. He said that poverty and illiteracy are the major factors of population explosion.

He said that there is a lack of population awareness in some communities and, therefore, “there is a need for community-focused awareness efforts”.

The new policy will also focus on the elderly, education, health, nutrition of adolescents between 11 and 19 years.

The Chief Minister suggested that efforts should be made to stabilize the population.

“Efforts will be made to stabilize the population by providing solutions to impotence and infertility and by reducing infant and maternal mortality through better healthcare facilities,” he said.

The new policy also proposes to give due attention to digital tracking of newborns, adolescents and the elderly. CM Adityanath said that while finalizing the new policy, efforts should be made to maintain demographic balance in all communities.

The objective will include ensuring easy availability of improved health facilities and reducing maternal and child mortality through proper nutrition.

“The objectives of the new policy should be embedded in the spirit of the Sustainable Development Goals,” he said.
