The proposed facility, which will be built on four hectares of land at Mai Foc-3 Industrial Park, Binh Doung Province, Vietnam, will have an 11 meter antenna that will be installed by ISRO Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC).
Documents reviewed by TOI show that the land for the project has already been acquired by the Vietnamese government, while ISTRAC last week invited Expression of Interest (EoI) from bidders for the construction of the facility.
The selected companies are “working on a design and construction mode that involves planning the work with prior approval from the Vietnamese authorities and design, construction and commissioning of the work as per the approved plan as a composite work on the acquired land”. The estimated cost of the project is 86 billion Vietnamese dollars and work is expected to be completed in 18 months after commissioning. The facility will include, among other things, an antenna support structure spread over 75-sqm, a facility building spread over 1,235-sqm.
Once operational, this feature will also be useful for India, which is working on expanding its tracking network. ISRO already has a network of ground stations within and outside the country: Bengaluru, Lucknow, Mauritius, Sriharikota, Port Blair, Thiruvananthapuram, Brunei, Biak (Indonesia).
