‘Sorry Mummy, Sorry Didi’: Another Student Suicide Shocks Rajasthan’s Kota

Jaipur, 24 February (IANS) | Another coaching student committed suicide by hanging himself in Rajasthan’s Kota. The police gave this information on Friday.

The incident took place in the city’s Kunhadi area, which is a hub for students preparing for various competitive exams, on Wednesday night.

17-year-old Abhishek, a resident of Badaun, UP, was living in a hostel in Kota for the past two years and was preparing for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET). He was not going to coaching for some time but was taking online classes from the hostel itself.

Police officials said that at 9 o’clock on Thursday night, information was received that a student in Datar Residency was not opening his room for about 24 hours.

“We went to the spot and broke open the door of the room. The student was found hanging. A suicide note was found in the room.”

In the suicide note, Abhishek wrote, “I am apologizing to you. I came to Kota on my own free will. No one forced me. Sorry didi, mom sorry brother, sorry friends. Forgive me, I am lost.” Why do I want to die.”

Father Aram Singh reached Kota on Friday morning after getting information about Abhishek’s suicide. He said parents know how to raise and educate children, but coaching institutes “discriminate”.

“That’s why children are committing suicide. Why is such a situation arising? What is the environment that children are committing suicide,” he asked.

Aram Singh said that there is pressure from coaching institutes but there is no pressure from parents. “My son never told me he was upset. He used to stress himself out.

“If I had known that he would commit suicide, I would have taken him from here earlier. I say that the government should pay attention. The government should make a policy, so that suicide incidents stop in our society.”

Five cases of suicide have been reported in Kota within the last two months.
