Mumbai: Sonu Nigam and his team were allegedly manhandled during an alleged altercation over taking a selfie with the famous singer who was performing at a live concert in suburban Chembur on Monday (February 20) night. The singer was performing at the concert when a man, identified as Swapnil Prakash Phaterpekar, attacked him and his team when he approached them to take a selfie with the singer. A scuffle ensued and at least two aides of Sonu Nigam fell down the stairs and sustained injuries. As per reports, Sonu’s mentor Ghulam Mustafa Khan’s son and his close aide Rabbani Khan and his bodyguard suffered some minor injuries in the brawl at the concert.
The singer approached the police following which an FIR was registered against a man for voluntarily causing hurt, wrongful restraint and other charges in connection with the scuffle. Based on a complaint by singer Sonu Nigam, sections 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 337 (causing danger to life or personal safety of others) of the IPC have been registered, police said. As reported by ANI, Sonu said, “After the concert, I was coming down from the stage when a man Swapnil Prakash Faterpekar caught hold of me. He then pushed Hari and Rabbani who came to save me. DCP Hemrajsinh Rajput told reporters, “After the live concert, Sonu Nigam was coming down from the stage when a man grabbed him. After objecting, he pushed Sonu Nigam and two others with him from the steps, they One of the two people received injuries.The accused is named Swapnil Futterpekar.The injured has been identified as Rabbani.No arrest has been made by the police so far.
According to officials, the incident happened during a concert in Mumbai’s Chembur area when Sonu Nigam was getting down from the stage. Sources said that the accused is the son of a local MLA. “He (the accused) allegedly approached the singer for a selfie when a scuffle broke out between him and Sonu Nigam’s security,” he said.
Commenting on reports of ‘some people assaulting Sonu’, DCP Rajput said, “I have spoken to Sonuji. Till now, we have not found any such evidence. The accused may have wanted to take a selfie or that he tried to collect. Some media attention…we will do further investigation to find out the reason.”
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi told ANI that the local MLA’s son tried to approach her after Sonu Nigam’s performance for a selfie, but was stopped by Sonu Nigam’s bodyguard not knowing his identity.
