Rohit Sharma’s fitting reply to Inzama-ul-Haq’s allegations

Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq hinted at a possible ball tampering by India against the Aussies in their last Super 8 match in Saint Lucia

Team India has been on a winning spree in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. Their latest win came against Australia, taking them to the semi-finals where they will face defending champions England on Thursday. But a few former Pakistan cricketers couldn’t digest India’s progress in the tournament and accused them of tinkering with the condition of the ball. Former captain Inzamam-ul-Haq hinted at a possible ball tampering against the Aussies. But ahead of the much-important face-off against England, India skipper Rohit Sharma has responded to the allegations.

Speaking on a Pakistani talk show, Inzamam questioned Arshdeep Sing reversing the ball in the 15th over itself. The former even stated that the umpires should take notice of such things.

“Arshdeep Singh when he was bowling the 15th over, the ball was reversing. is it too early (for reverse swing) with the new ball? This means the ball was ready for reverse swing by the 12th or the 13th over, Umpires should keep their eyes open (to spot) these things,” said Inzamam during a talk show.

On the eve of the big semi-final, Rohit was asked about the same at the pre-match press conference. The Indian skipper gave a very logical answer and said,

“What can I say? Don’t you see the rough surfaces and the heat here? This isn’t Australia or England. Here the conditions will result in the ball reverse swinging in 12-15 overs. It’s happening for all teams and not us alone. Sometimes dimag ko kholna zaroori hai (people need to open their minds and think).”

India’s 26-run victory over Australia pushed them on the edge of elimination while Afghanistan ensured it by defeating Bangladesh. The Rashid Khan-led side made it to a first-ever World Cup semi-final and are all set to challenge South Africa on Wednesday night (local time).
