Some ministers in Rajasthan ready to quit, Ajay Maken said before the reshuffle

In a clear indication that some members of the Rajasthan cabinet may be dropped, Congress general secretary Ajay Maken on Friday said some ministers have expressed their willingness to leave the government to work for the organisation. Maken’s remarks in the All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge of Rajasthan comes after his one-on-one meetings with party legislators and other leaders in the Congress-ruled state here ahead of a possible cabinet reshuffle.

Maken said everyone told him that whatever decision the party high command takes for him, he will accept it. A cabinet expansion and appointments to district Congress posts are expected soon, after supporters of former deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot demanded a larger share of power in the state under Ashok Gehlot.

“There are people who are eager to leave government posts and work for the organisation. We are proud of such people, Maken said, adding that their remarks indicate that some ministers in the Gehlot cabinet may now make way for new faces. Congress will form the government again in 2023 with our members who are ready to leave everything and work together with the organisation.”

The leader said the ministers cited his own example when he quit in 2013 to work for the organisation. After one-on-one meetings with the ruling party’s 115 MLAs and those supporting it on Wednesday and Thursday, discussions were held with the state executive at the Congress headquarters here on Friday.

He is now expected to submit his report to the party’s central leadership in New Delhi. We mainly discussed how we can bring back the Congress government in 2023. Even in the state executive meeting, we discussed that there should be better coordination between the government and the organization so that together we can bring back the Congress to power. .

Maken appreciated the work of the Gehlot government. He said, ‘Every MLA told me how many wonderful works of development have been done in his constituency in education, health, roads, hospitals. He said that all the MLAs are satisfied and all are moving ahead on the path of development.

Apart from the MLAs, Maken spoke separately to Gehlot, Pilot, state unit president Govind Singh Dotasara and speaker CP Joshi. When asked about the possible role of Pilot, who was sacked from the post of deputy CM and state unit president after revolting against Gehlot last year, he said, “Everyone has faith in the high command. Everyone has said that whatever role the high command decides will be acceptable to all.

On Thursday night, Gehlot also held an informal meeting of party MLAs at his home. Forget, forgive and unite, he was later quoted as telling them. There is no dearth of development works in the state. The work will continue like this… have faith. You all will win and the Congress government will be formed in 2023.”

Including Gehlot, the Rajasthan ministry now has 21 members and a maximum of nine can be accommodated. Similarly, there are vacancies in party units at the district level. Last year, the Congress high command brought a ceasefire in the Rajasthan unit after rebel MLAs led by Pilot appeared to bring the Gehlot government to the brink of collapse.

A three-member AICC committee was formed to look into the grievances of pilot supporters. But he claims that even after months this has not happened.
