Mangaluru: In an effort to provide consumers fresh fish Their doors, and uplift fishing community, The fisheries department decided to present e-vehicles With cold storage facility And solar panelsFor door-to-door delivery of fish. Fisheries, Ports and Inland Water Transport Minister S Angara said that this is probably the first of its kind initiative taken by the department, that these electric vehicles will be provided to the vendors.
He told the Times of India that under the ‘Fresh Fish to Home’ program of the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana, electric vehicles would be distributed to the beneficiaries in the next 15 days. The department has reserved Rs 4 crore for the project. Each vehicle costs around Rs 8 lakh, and is equipped with solar panels and cold storage facilities. It is an endeavor to generate self employment and provide quality fish to the consumer. In the first phase, it is planned to distribute these unique e-vehicles to all the taluks of Dakshina Kannada district. We plan to buy more vehicles in the next financial year. Angara said the formal launch would be announced after consulting Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.
The vehicles will be equipped with solar panels, freezers, swappable lithium batteries, speakers and GPRS and will be linked to the fisheries department’s app for taking orders. The beneficiary will be selected for the purchase of the vehicle by the fisheries department and women will be given priority. At present, several programs have been launched for the fishing community, including Matsya Shelter Yojana, Matsya Mahila Swalamban Yojana, and Matsya Vahini Yojana. If we include the concept of ‘Fresh fish to home’ for the fishermen who sell fish on the roads in the coastal areas, they can earn more profit. The sales volume will increase by at least 10 times. Usually women selling fish are found in the coastal areas only. If we promote and encourage more beneficiaries, and strengthen the transport system, so that fresh fish reaches the destination quickly, the number of entrepreneurs selling fish in the state can increase by 40%,” said a closer look at the project.
