Kolhapur: Five people died and nine others were injured when a private passenger vehicle overturned when its tire burst. Kumbharli Village In Solapur Tuesday morning.
According to the police, 17 passengers were traveling from Akkalkot to Solapur. They left around 9:30 in the morning. After reaching Kumbharli village an hour later, the front right tire burst and the vehicle overturned twice. First the local people helped in evacuating the victims and then the ambulance and police arrived. Locals claimed that the incident happened in two minutes.
Atul Bhosale, assistant police inspector of Valsang police station, said, “We have identified all those injured and can identify four of the five dead. We are not able to identify a woman who lost her life. As per the medical examination, all five died on the spot due to severe injuries and loss of blood. Two are in critical condition. The injured are being treated at the civil hospital in Solapur.”
The police claimed that it was a difficult task to verify the identity of the passengers as all those traveling were from different localities. Locals claimed that they boarded a private passenger vehicle as state transport buses were not on the road due to the strike by the employees of the public transport undertaking. “We are not sure whether they were expecting to get a bus to travel to Solapur and after not getting the bus they boarded a private passenger vehicle. We are investigating this further. We have complained to the driver, Jalil Nazir Bagwan. A police complaint has been registered against him. Filed by one of the injured persons,” Bhosale said.
Katyava Yelappa Bansode (55), Basavaraj Yelappa Bansode (27), Anand Irappa Gaikwad, Lakshman Murlidhar Shinde (42) and an unidentified woman (40) died in the accident.
