RIO DE JANEIRO: Flamengo scored three goals in the first half to beat Juventude 3-1 on Wednesday as Brazil’s league leaders Atlético Mineiro continued their chase.
The win, which saw Atlético beat Santos by the same scoreline, means Flamengo Belo Horizonte are 11 points behind the club, but with two games in hand.
Kennedy, Pedro’s first half goal and Andreas Pereira’s superb 30m free kick earned him all three points at the Maracan stadium.
Willian Matthias scored a consolation goal for the visitors after 57 minutes, but Juventude remain 16th in the 20-team league, one place above the relegation zone.
