According to a report by Canalys, Samsung shipped the highest number of smartphones in the third quarter of this year. The South Korean giant had a 23 per cent market share during Q3 2021, despite seeing a 6 per cent decline in the overall smartphone market in Q3 2021 compared to last year. Apple Saw the second largest shipment with 15 percent market share. Xiaomi came in third place with 14 percent market share, followed by Vivo And Opposition, both of which enjoyed a 10 percent market share.

The Canalys report states that the smartphone market is down by 6 percent due to the ongoing chip shortage they have. “In the third quarter of 2021, global smartphone shipments declined by 6 per cent, as vendors struggled to meet demand for devices amid component shortages,” the report said. Ben Stanton, principal analyst at Canalys, said the “chipset famine has really arrived.” In an effort to bridge the demand-supply gap, manufacturers are increasing prices to discourage buying, the analyst said. “But despite this, the shortage will not subside until 2022,” Stanton said.

Samsung’s 23 per cent market share remained stagnant with the company’s performance last year. Apple, on the other hand, saw a growth of 3 per cent as it had a market share of 15 per cent as against 12 per cent in the previous year. Xiaomi’s 14 percent market share also remained the same as last year, and Vivo and Oppo saw a 1 percent growth with 10 percent this year as against (each) 9 percent market share last year.
