Slight rise in temperature over the weekend after cold and rain in Israel

After overnight rain on Thursday, temperatures in Israel were expected to remain relatively cool for the winter, only rising slightly over the weekend.

Temperatures in Jerusalem were expected to be 12 °C (53.6 °F) on Thursday, while the forecast for Tel Aviv was expected to see temperatures of 18 °C (64.4 °F) and Haifa 17 °C (62.6 °F).

Israel’s southernmost city, Eilat, was expected to see warm, nearly year-round temperatures of 22 °C (71.6 °F), while the forecast for the city of Beersheba in the northern Negev desert was 19 °C (66.2 °F). According to the Meteorological Service.

By Sunday, temperatures will be warmer than average for the winter season.

Heavy rain lashed northern Israel on Thursday, with the city of Merom Golan recording about 69 mm. Tel Aviv saw some 34 mm and Jerusalem 11 mm.

And on Mount Hermon, about 5 centimeters of snow covered the height of the ski resort, which was closed to visitors on Thursday.

Minor flooding was reported in several areas across the country on Thursday night.

In two separate incidents on Wednesday in Gnei Tikva, east of Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, two women, aged 23 and 70, suffered minor injuries from breaking and falling tree branches due to strong winds.
