Slight increase in cases in 17 districts of Tamil Nadu including Chennai. Coimbatore News – Times of India

While Tamil Nadu reported a decline in new Covid infections, Chennai reported a marginal increase in cases. Officials said 835 people tested positive for the viral infection on Tuesday, compared to 841 on Monday. In Chennai, 131 people tested positive on Tuesday as compared to 126 a day earlier. At the end of the day, the state reported 924 discharged patients and 12 deaths leaving 10,271 people in the active case registry.

CHENNAI: While Tamil Nadu reported a decline in new Covid infections, Chennai reported a marginal increase in cases. Officials said 835 people tested positive for the viral infection on Tuesday, compared to 841 on Monday. In Chennai, 131 people tested positive on Tuesday as compared to 126 a day earlier. At the end of the day, the state reported 924 discharged patients and 12 deaths leaving 10,271 people in the active case registry.
Chennai was the only district with over 100 new cases on Tuesday. Less than 20 new cases were reported in each of the twenty-eight districts. Of these, less than 10 cases were reported in 18 districts. Theni reported zero new cases and Perambalur, Tenkasi and Ariyalur added two cases each.
There was a marginal increase in one to six cases in 17 districts as compared to Monday. The sharpest increase was recorded in Tirunelveli, where new cases rose from 6 on Monday to 12 on Tuesday. In Thanjavur, the cases rose from 27 to 32.
With 98 new cases, Coimbatore stood second in the new case tally. Cases in Coimbatore also rose marginally from 94 on Tuesday. Chengalpet reported 70 new cases, up from 74 on Monday. Chennai (1,220) and Coimbatore (1,138) had over 1,000 active cases. Of the 12 deaths, Chennai reported four, Coimbatore, Salem, Thanjavur, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Nagapattinam, Pudukottai and Dindigul one each.
The state on Tuesday vaccinated 1.2 lakh people, reaching 5.7 crore out of the targeted 117 crore doses in government immunization centres. Apart from this, 26.8 lakh people have taken the vaccine in private hospitals since May.
