Sir Vivian Richards finds no place in Shaun Tait’s all-time ODI XI

Former Australia pacer Shaun Tait recently picked up his all-time ODI XI. He picked four cricketers from his native country Australia and four from the Indian cricket team. In his XI, he also had one player from the West Indies team and two from Pakistan.

Surprisingly, none of the players from New Zealand, England, South Africa or Sri Lanka made their all-time team. They picked just one player who is now active in the international arena, Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli.

Tait named his all-time ODI XI to Sportskeeda. He chose Virender Sehwag as his opening partner. Notably, both the openers were aggressive and had the ability to demolish any opposing bowling team on the planet.

Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting was placed at number three in Tait’s playing XI. Notably, Ponting is regarded as one of the finest captains in the history of international cricket. Australia ruled the cricket world under his command. Tait, on the other hand, did not include former West Indies batsman Viv Richards. The reason for not adding Richards is because he hasn’t seen Viv Richards playing much.

“Batting at number 3, I haven’t seen Viv Richards much, so I don’t know if I can pick him,” Tait said.

In the end, Tait went into the bowling unit with a trio of fast bowlers, selecting Shoaib Akhtar, Wasim Akram and Glenn McGrath. Former Australia leg spin bowler Shane Warne was the only spinner in his team.

Tait represented his country from 2005 to 2016. At his peak, he was considered one of the fastest bowlers in the world. He was seen as the future of Australia, but injuries prevented him from becoming one of the greats. His best was shown in the shorter versions of the game, however, he played only three Test matches in his career.

Shaun Tait’s All Time ODI XI: Adam Gilchrist, Virender Sehwag, Ricky Ponting, Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara, Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Shane Warne, Wasim Akram, Glenn McGrath, Shoaib Akhtar.
