Singhu Border Killing: Nihang Group Takes Responsibility, Investigation On – What We Know So Far

New Delhi: A 35-year-old man was brutally murdered at Delhi’s Singhu border on Friday. The deceased with a severed left hand was found this morning tied to an inverted police barricade on the Haryana-Delhi Singhu border outside Delhi, which shook the entire nation.

According to reports, the body was found near the staging area of ​​the Anti-Agriculture Law protest site where farmers have been protesting against three agricultural laws for more than 10 months.

Soon after the incident was reported, a picture went viral on social media, showing that the body of the deceased had multiple marks and spots, a clear indication of being beaten up or lynched by the mob prior to the murder.

The half-naked body consisted only of a piece of cloth tied around the waist—a dirty, blood-soaked white dhoti.

“The body has been sent to the nearest civil hospital and further investigation is on,” police sources told news agency IANS.

Meanwhile, the United Kisan Morcha (SKM) has accused the Nihangs or armed Sikh warriors of committing the killings. He told the media that the Nihangs have been creating problems in and around the protest sites since day one.

Here’s what we know about the event so far:

1:00 pm: A video of the inhuman incident has also surfaced in which a group of Nihangs can be seen standing on top of the man – bleeding after his wrist was severed and he was lying on the ground.

1:30 pm: Both Haryana and Delhi Police were deployed on their respective borders. A Haryana Police official said, “We received information about the incident at around 5 am that a person was found dead near the stage of the farmers’ protest site, following which a police team reached the spot.”

2:00 pm: Haryana Police has registered an FIR against unknown people in the barbaric incident at Singhu border. According to the FIR, Haryana Police received information at around 5 am on Friday that a group of Nihangs had chopped off the hand of a man at the protest site and later tied him with a rope to an iron barricade.

2:30 pm: It is being alleged that the man was caught insulting the Sikh religious holy book, however, an official confirmation on the same is still awaited.

3.00 pm: According to reports, the National Commission for Scheduled Castes has sought a report from the Director General of Police, Haryana in 24 hours on the murder of a Dalit man. The commission has also asked Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar to take strict action in this matter immediately.

3:30 pm: Meanwhile, Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait has condemned the killing of a Dalit man at Singhu border, saying the truth will come out in the investigation.

4:00 pm: Jagjit Singh Dallewal of the United Kisan Morcha has alleged that the incident was an attempt to make the Morcha a religious issue. A case has been registered under section 302/34 of IPC. Forensic team has inspected the spot. Postmortem is going on.

4:30 pm: According to reports, the 35-year-old man has been identified as Lakhbir Singh, who was murdered earlier in the day. He belonged to the Dalit community and had no criminal history or political affiliations.

5:00 pm: Nihang group ‘Nirvair Khalsa-Udna Dal’ has admitted to the killing of a Dalit man over sacrilege on the Singhu border. In a video, Balwinder Singh, Panth-Akali, Nirvair Khalsa-Udna Dal have claimed responsibility for the incident.

The Nihangs said, “Whoever commits desecration, we will treat them like this. We will not approach any police, administration.”
