Siliguri Detergent Factory Charred In Major Fire Incident

A massive fire broke out at a detergent factory in West Bengal’s Siliguri, which took 10 hours to douse.

Kolkata: A massive fire broke out at a detergent factory in northern West Bengal’s Siliguri and it took nearly 10 hours for fire brigade personnel to douse the blaze. Smoke was seen for the first time late on Saturday night in the factory located at Phulbari under New Jalpaiguri police station area.

Initially the factory workers tried to douse the fire but when they failed, the fire department was informed. Five fire engines took 10 hours to douse the fire in the early hours of Sunday.

The effect of the fire was such that the concrete roof of the factory caved in. No one was injured in the fire, which is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short-circuit, according to officials.

A factory official said that the fire could cause a loss of around Rs 8-10 crore as the entire manufacturing unit was gutted. An official said a probe is on to ascertain the exact cause of the fire.
